Vera Setskaya, President of GVA Sawyer, took part in Russia Hotel Upgrading & Development Forum

On May 17-18, Sheremetyevo Airport Hotel hosted Russia Hotel Upgrading & Development Forum organized by the Chinese company Mykar.

Vera Setskaya, President of GVA Sawyer, participated in the session “Mixed-use Development: Next Generation” moderated by Steffen Sendler, Partner and General Director of Drees & Sommer. The other speakers of the session were Timo Hokkanen, General Director of SRV-Stroi, Vladimir Limin, CEO of the Russian Council on Green Building, and Alexey Afanasiev, Senior Lawyer of Dentons Europe.

The participants discussed a lot of various issues related to mixed-use development such as approaches to combining different functional elements within one building and combining buildings with different functions within one land plot. Besides, the speakers focused on specific features of concepts for hotels in mixed-use projects and on the peculiarities of funding of mixed-use projects and hotels in them.

Vera Setskaya presented two GVA Sawyer’s mixed-use projects with hotels – Novocity project in Novorossiysk, Russia, and the new urban development project Kotka Old Port in Kotka, Finland. She shared her views on elaboration of hotel concepts and, in particular, on potential auxiliary elements in them such as conference facilities or spa centres, which should be stipulated by the area surrounding the hotel. She also talked about the opportunities for reconceptualization of some objects and turning them into accommodation, for example into hostels, and the importance of a detailed budget calculation for such a project.
